I made this card with two things in mind – the YCU Challenge #10 – Flowers and my friend Katie. Her birthday was Wednesday, and I wanted to make a special card for her.
She’s from Delaware and she loves the beach, so I wanted to create a paper pieced scene. I took so paper from an Echo Park collection and a Bo Bunny collection, and layered them over each other to create the main part of the card. I inked up the back layer of water in Broken China Distress Ink to give it more dimension. Speaking of dimension, I popped up that lighthouse on foam tape to make it stand out.
To give even more dimension, I added those beautiful florals from a Prima collection. I learned that Delaware’s state flower is the peach blossom, as they were once known for their prized peach orchards. I added the centers from a McGill punch, and put a touch of bling with Victorian Velvet and Mustard Seed Distress Stickles.
The sentiment is by Ali Edwards Technique Tuesday – quickly becoming my new favorite (one of the few sets in my collection that I’ve ever paid full price for!!) It comes up a little light here in the photo, but reads ‘Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves”. Even though not a typical sentiment for a birthday card, I thought this was the perfect phrase to tie the card together, as well as describe a sunny disposition Katie has! She seriously makes me crack up all day, one of those people that are just pure fun to be around – we have an absolute riot when we’re together!
Since the challenge is ‘flowers’ is a close-up of all the decadent sweet blossoms.
If this is your first time here, stick around and stay awhile! Thanks so much for visiting me, stand by for June – it’s about to be totally insane around here!
