No Sentiment Cards…and Some Memories

The vast majority of my cards have sentiments stamped on them, but I love cards that don’t need one – or ones that you can add almost anything on at the last minute.  Consider this card:

This could be for anything right?  A birthday, anniversary, with sympathy, just because, thank you – it’s limitless!

I stamped this Stampendous! orchid image first with Memento black ink, then colored with Copics, if I remember correctly – BV20 Dull Lavender, BV13 Light Hydrangea, and B79 Iris.

Even though it’s technically an orchid, it does look like an iris a bit.  And the coloring makes me think of my grandma, she loved purple.  Here in Knoxville where both my paternal grandparents are originally from, her sister and brother-in-law (my grandpa’s brother) had many irises in their backyard that I remember from when coming here when I was little for a family reunion in 1991.  I would have been 6.

That vacation I remember lots of specific things – but I wonder do I remember them actually taking place or do I only remember them so vividly from the VHS tape thanks to a hopeful video journalist amongst us?  I remember trying honeydew for the first time, playing with my little brother on my great uncle’s boat parked in the driveway, my relatives indulging me in my counting to 10 in Spanish and French, and I remember there being more lightning bugs than I could ever dream of catching.

Who knew that exactly 20 years later I would come down from Michigan to live here, and fall in love with this city?
