10 Minute Craft Dash

New challenge for me, the 10 Minute Craft Dash!  Super fun, super spaz – ahhh!!! You only have 10 MINUTES!  I can spend 10 minutes just thinking should I use lime green or am I really thinking more of a palm frond green!??  So here’s the color theme:

CD_12

Let me just say that this actually turned out more awesome than I thought, given the time restraint:

Pearl Gateway - February Cards 034

Okay, done in 6:03!!!  WHAT!??!  Enough time to……….do one more!!!?!!

Pearl Gateway - February Cards 033

Because I already had the layout conceived, I just changed out the colors and voila!  Another card, under 10 minutes!  The two together came out to 9:52.  I know, crazy!  Love the random ink splatters thanks to some Mister Huey’s, and those arrows and sentiment are Studio Calico too.

So whatcha think, are you playing along in the 10 minute challenge?  If you are too lazy to go to the gym, but need some panic-inducing, heart-pumping cardio – give this a shot!

Thank You!

Shout out to all my new followers here, on FB, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.  I appreciate all of you and so glad to have you with me on my creative journeys!  If you’re new, here’s what you can expect:

  • Lots of cards (often challenges, but custom orders I get will be here too)
  • Random crafts (if I ever decide to MAKE something I see from Pinterest)
  • Maybe a recipe or two (you’ll see more food photos on my Instagram)
  • Home décor (when I spend my hard-earned $ at Home Goods instead of Simon Says Stamp)
  • Misadventures in the garden (since buying our home we now have a spot to grow some green!)
  • Speaking of misadventures, anything related to Knoxville or other miscellaneous travel (including festivals and store tours)
  • Really anything where creativity is involved!

Today’s post falls into the first category, and very appropriate – a thank you to all of you!!

Pearl Gateway - February Cards 021

An entry for CAS-UAL FRIDAYS, the theme is Hi-Ho Silver!  Very fun, and always a challenge for me to get nice clean CAS cards.  (I’m one of those embarrassing “more is more” types!)  Love those new (to me) arrows and banner from Studio Calico “Oh Snap” set.  And how great do they look in that lurvely mint green?? (Virdian Archival Ink).  And let’s not forget the silver – some nice n shiny glitter cardstock does the trick.

Thanks for the visit today, hope you have a fantastic Monday!

Random 2012 Moments

Life can get crazy sometimes and I feel like things often slip through the cracks.  Today’s post is kind of a catch-all of some other miscellaneous things that happened in the Pearl Gateway world:

SSS Haul October (3)

SSS Haul October (5)     SSS Haul October (1)

To start some things off, some hauls throughout the year.  I’m sure you guys recognize the stamps, paper, and snowflake wood veneers on the left; I used them like MAD this Christmas!  Some new Hero Arts Shadow Inks and Neon inks I bought for myself earlier in the year to round out my collection that my parents bought for me last Christmas.

Christmas Haul 2012 (1)

This was this year’s Christmas present – thanks Mom and Dad!  Fiskars scissors that have been on my Amazon wishlist since like 2009, some fun jumbo cling stamps from Stampendous! that are really fun to practice Copic coloring with (here’s my most recent one using that lily stamp), some new Impression Obsession backgrounds, gems, a Dear Lizzy 6x6 pad, a Simon stamp (in honor of my naughty Boston Terriers, go here and here to see some of those stamps in action), and then a new stamp that I admit I am saving for summer in the upper right hand corner – Kaiser Craft’s Rock Pool set.

WBIR at Liz Beth (1)     WBIR at Liz Beth (2)

In October I did a quick interview/how-to with local WBIR Channel 10 here in Knoxville.  I showed how to make a tea tray using Envirotex Lite (click on the link to see a similar tutorial for yourself).  There is a video on WBIR’s website but I could not find it for the life of me after 45 minutes of looking so to be honest I gave up! Sad smile But it was a great experience and hope to do it again soon.

WBIR at Liz Beth (3)     WBIR at Liz Beth (5)

Posing with reporter “Darin” Erin Donovan from WBIR after the filming.  After shooting this, I had the craziest realization…she is “Biscuit Lady” from the Biscuit Fest here in Knoxville!  Click on the link to see a picture of her as the Biscuit Lady and read about other biscuit related misadventures.

UptownArtDec2012 (5)     UptownArtDec2012 (6)

In December – when things were TOTALLY mad around here if you’ve been with me since before the New Year – I did a small show at a ladies’ business group that my boss is a member of.  They allowed me to sell my cards (with no charge for a table, YAY) and this is when I realized that this is my favorite setting to sell my pieces.  I get to interact directly with customers, and see the joy on their faces as they describe who they’re going to give the card to and for what occasion they need to send a handwritten note.  Hands down it’s the best feeling knowing that something you lovingly created is being sent by someone who hand selected it for the recipient, who in turn will hopefully cherish it.

Thanks for stopping by today friends and sharing some of my world with me, it’s another great feeling to know I’ve got you all along for the ride!

Stampeddler, Northville, MI/Scrappy Chic, Livonia, MI

I realize my readers are all over the US, even all over the world.  But that doesn’t mean you don’t travel!  Here are some pics from my trip back home to metro Detroit, Michigan and a looky-loo at two of my favorite local scrapbooking/stamping stores.  Very pic heavy, so grab a cuppa and enjoy!

Stampeddler (11)

Entering the Stampeddler Plus store, located in downtown Northville.  This city is very quaint with lots of chic boutiques.  I started coming here when I was 16 or so when I first got into scrapbooking and it has been a deliciously dangerous place to go ever since! <3

Stampeddler (4)      Stampeddler (6)

A great ink selection welcomes you with lots of Memories, Ranger Archival, Tsukineko, and more.  On the right showcases Stickles, Adirondack Alcohol Inks, Ranger Melt Art items, embossing powers, and more.

Stampeddler (5)     Stampeddler (10)

Of course, stamps!  A fantastic selection that dares to be rivaled.  On the left: jumbo clings by Stampendous! and Hero Arts lovelies on the right.

Stampeddler (8)     Stampeddler (7)

They also carry a lot of stencils that can be used as dry embossing with a lightbox, or with stencil cremes.  A specialty section (on the right) highlights local high schools for scrappin’ moms.

Stampeddler (9)     Stampeddler (2)

Their center section has some punches, and Sew Easy items with other doo-dads.  A solid collection of Bazzill Basics paper resides on the right.  If you’re trying to match something specific, you’ll find it here!

Stampeddler (1)     Stampeddler (3)

Ribbon?  Yep they’ve got it!  Mini gems and wires are housed in a cute vignette on the right.

Stampeddler (12)

A piece that I would love to have houses all types of letter/number embellishments.  So fun to open the drawers!

Scrappy Chic (3)     Scrappy Chic (2)

Scrappy Chic in Livonia invites you to ‘step into a world of scrapbooking’ - what a fantastic world to step into!

Scrappy Chic (4)     Scrappy Chic (10)

Patterned paper and embellishment collections are definitely the name of the game over here.  They’ve got 12x12 loose papers, 6x6 packs, brads, ribbon, twine, stickers, chipboard, wood veneer, and more from all the trendiest collections.  Bo Bunny, Studio Calico, Basic Grey, Heidi Swapp, Amy Tangerine, Echo Park, MME, Kaiser Craft, and more!

Scrappy Chic (9)     Scrappy Chic (11)

Here’s some Jenni Bowlin and some Prima.

Scrappy Chic (6)     Scrappy Chic (7)

Some big Ranger fans  – Perfect Pearls, Stickles, Liquid Pearls, Melt Art, Distress and Adirondack everything.

Scrappy Chic (5)     Scrappy Chic (8)

More Studio Calico Mister Hueys than I have ever seen in one physical location, followed by Claudine Hellmuth’s paints, and then a section of punches/scissors/adhesives/etc.  On the right is a fabulous array of Wendy Vecchi, Basic Grey, Studio Calico, Hero Arts, Tim Holtz, and more stamps

Scrappy Chic (18)     Scrappy Chic (12)

They too have a great selection of solid cardstock (even some extra large sizes on the side), and a section of bags/cases/cropper hoppers/etc. to store them in.

Scrappy Chic (14)     Scrappy Chic (15)

A separate section of papers showcases by theme instead of brand/collection.  Travel/Baby/Graduation/Wedding/etc. it’s all here.

Scrappy Chic (17)

Another large section hosts their cropping area, I believe this is a somewhat recent addition, maybe last year?

******************************************************

I love both of these places and cherish every time I’m able to go back home and visit them.  Though they are both scrapbooking stores, they certainly have their own tendencies and product types that will make you want to visit both.  Stampeddler is somewhat more traditional, with an obvious focus on stamping.  They also carry some unique artsy mediums that I haven’t seen elsewhere.  They have also been around for a couple decades, and really know their stuff.  Below is a pic of what my BFF bought me for Christmas from there:  A set of alcohol inks, some thimble style sponge applicators, Stampendous! Frantage embossing power (interesting stuff, haven’t quite got the hang of it), and Archival Ink in the most lovely shade – Viridian Green!

Christmas Haul 2012 (3)

Scrappy Chic is more the modern trendy take on scrapping, with all the new collections that look like they came straight out of the latest CHA show.  Definitely more paper and embellishments, although they certainly hold their own on the stamps.  Here’s what I picked up from them (sorry for the shine):  HA cling stamps, 2 SC Mister Huey’s masks, Technique Tuesday chevron stamp set, 2 MME papers and 1 MME embellishment pack, 1 Basic Grey paper pad, and 2 alcohol ink mixatives in copper and pearl:

Christmas Haul 2012 (2)

Thanks for coming with me on a virtual tour of these two stores, hopefully you haven’t drooled all over your keyboard!  If you are a local metro Detroiter or happen to be in that area, both locations are worth a visit, and only a few miles apart from each other!  If you have any questions about either location, please visit them in person, on their websites, or feel free to ask me anything!

Stargazer Lily LOVE

I am having a pretty good week, lots of stampy cards coming together the way I’d like them to!  I have this jumbo cling Stampendous! Tiger Lily stamp but wanted to color it more like a Stargazer Lily as I was inspired from the colors of the most recent Runway Inspired Challenge (which I haven’t played in awhile):

And here’s my result!

004

Stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then colored with the following Copics: R000 Cherry White, RV23 Pure Pink, RV25 Dog Rose Flower, R37 Carmine, and YG06 Yellowish Green for the stem and stamens.  A new stamp set by Hero Arts (Large Vintage Alphabet CL689) inked in Cup O Joe Shadow Ink shows the LOVE.

But wait, it gets better!

I was perusing my Google Reader to do some other challenges when I happened upon The Play Date Café, and here’s their challenge photo inspiration – I kid you not!!

I know, crazy, huh!?  So needless to say I am thrilled because it couldn’t be more perfect.

Oh wait, it COULD BE!

Here’s one of my favorite wedding pics, May 2010 with none other than…..

So there you have it folks, Stargazer Lily LOVE! <3
