Celebrate Today

Another post tonight for Color Throwdown #292:

IMG_7745

This card was actually kind of labor-intensive.  I colored a swatch of paper with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain and went to town die-cutting the CASual Fri-dies links.  After that everything went by slightly quicker.  Papertrey Ink stamps, Hero Arts Bubblegum Pink ink for the ‘jam’, Copics for the jar lid, and Studio Calico sequins.

Thanks for visiting!

PTI–cluster stamped sentiment

Tonight’s card is an attempt at PTI’s Cluster Stamped Sentiment:

IMG_7746

I used the little circle from Irresistibly Ikat, fun to find a new use for a random circle stamp.  The stamp is Avery Elle and the inks are Hero Arts.  If I were to do this again I would emboss it in white instead of clear.

Thanks for the quick visit!

Sunny Hello

And now for the latest CASE study!

image

IMG_7689

This card was so fun to make.  My inspiration comes from the card in several places – the dots, the colors, and the floral.  Here’s how I made it:  the main white panel is embossing paste in a Heidi Swapp stencil.  I mixed up four small blobs of paste with deepening amounts of Distress Stain in Black Soot for an ombre effect.  The flower was made with a McGill lily punch and colored with Distress Inks and a copic to make it look more realistic, as well as a Wink of Stella, because who doesn’t want more shimmer!?

Here’s a close-up of the flower:

Nautical Father’s Day

Second post for the evening, trying to fit everything in – it’s time for CASology – Metal!

image

IMG_7704

I almost never use a black panel, but for Perfect Pearls it really is the best choice to make them stand out for their full potential.  I stamped this ship wheel and colored in six different metallic Perfect Pearls.  (It kind of almost looks like a gear too, which is also very masculine).  Very subtle and perfect for dad.  Sentiment from Avery Elle, anchor punch by Studio Calico.

Father’s Day is a great time to practice masculine CAS cards – a challenge within itself, no?

Sparkle & Shine

Finally got to squeeze some craft time in, yay!  Today’s card is inspo from Case this Sketch and Color Throwdown!

     image

I loved those gems I went pretty literal with this one!

IMG_7685

The stamp set is by Neat & Tangled, I used a solid image diamond to stamp it on my card base with Versamark and brushed Perfect Pearls over the images.  I used the two smaller outlined image diamonds to stamp in various Distress ink colors (Crushed Olive, Peacock Feathers, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire) and watercolored with them.  the sentiment is stamped in Chipped Sapphire, with an overlay of Wink of Stella.

IMG_7688

This card is incredibly difficult to photograph properly, so I took a couple shots of it.  Not sure which I liked better, so I thought I’d show you both!

Here’s close up of all the sparkle & shine so to speak!

Thanks for visiting!

RIC and CASE This Sketch

I won’t waste time babbling, but I love this dual challenge – a great partnership with RIC and CASE this Sketch!

IMG_7430

This card came about relatively quickly, I was predominantly inspired by obviously not only the challenges themselves, but Joni Andaya on the RIC DT and decided to set about making it my own.

The black panel is dry embossed, it’s actually Coredinations paper with white core, once I sanded it a bit deeper it really took on an alternate type of chalkboard look.  The flowers are hand watercolored with Distress Inks – Tattered Rose, Dried Marigold, Ripe Persimmon, Barn Door, and Fired Brick.  The darker centers are Winsor & Newton in Ultramarine 660 WC with some white gel pen.  The leaves are Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint, and Forest Moss.  Sequins and Pearls finish.  Oh and some Perfect Pearls Mists, here’s a close up:

IMG_7431

The leaves have Green Patina and the flowers have Biscotti.

Thanks so much for joining me, have a great day!

Trompe L’oeil Card

I have no idea where the thought process for this card came from but I am so happy how it came out!

Inspiration thanks to CASology – Garden

IMG_7429

So fun to make!  It is actually really simple; I embossed the dogwood flower image on the card front itself, and on a separate white paper.  I colored both the exact same way.  I ran the separate paper through my die cut machine a couple times with some various sized circle dies to create this look.  The coloring is done with Distress Inks and Markers in Victorian velvet, Shabby Shutters, and Mustard Seed.

Hope you give this a try, it is really easy with a great effect!

I <3 You to the Stars and Back

Not really sure what happened but totally spaced and missed the deadline for this CASE Study:

IMG_7232

Kind of hard to photograph with the vellum on top of that metallic background.  Mason Jar papers from Dear Lizzy, Star Kraft paper from Studio Calico, Mason Jar die from Papertrey Ink, and sentiment from Lawn Fawn.

Have a blessed good Friday!

Happy Easter

I’ve only made a couple Easter cards this year but this one’s my fave, inspo thanks to CASE this Sketch!

ETA:  Thanks to Donna Mikasa for reminding me of the Ovals Challenge over at CASualFridays!

IMG_7234

To make this card, I used the second smallest size oval from a Spellbinders die set and sent it through one at time until this pattern was created.  I placed the top panel with the holes over the card base and traced the oval shapes with a light pencil.  I took 9 colors of Distress Ink: Squeezed Lemonade, Tumbled Glass, Shaded Lilac, Milled Lavender, Antique Linen, Spun Sugar, Shabby Shutters, Dried Marigold, and Iced Spruce.  Using an ink blending tool, I shaded the oval shapes in to look like eggs.  I dropped a bit of Mister Hueys in Warm Calico to give them a speckled look.  Hero Arts sentiment and some enamel dots to finish.

I am really happy with how this turned out, thanks for looking!

Not too many things happier than Friday!  I’ve waited all week to share this card with you all, inspiration thanks to Runway Inspired Challenge:

Here’s my take:

Happy Pigment Flowers

Happy Tuesday!  This card comes inspired by the latest CASE Study!

I’ll be honest, at first I thought this card was so CAS and perfect and using red (I almost never use red) that I wasn’t going to play along.  I didn’t think I could come up with anything!  But I forced myself to really look and think about the card.  I think (and hope) you’ll quickly see my inspiration!

IMG_7221

First, I forced myself to use red.  It is not a color I gravitate to by any means.  Next I liked the gems (and I’m sure we can all agree, they are getting neglected with the current popularity of sequins and enamel dots).  Third, I liked the shape of the flowers, so I thought I would make my own using a ColorBox Cat’s Eye Queue Ink Pad – I also almost never use pigment ink either.  So that is how this card came about!

I kept the ink splotchy and organic feeling on the kraft cardstock, and outlined here and there with a white gel pen.  The happy die-cut was a perfect touch, and it could mean happy anything – yay for versatility!

Thanks for visiting, have a happy day!

Stamping with Watercolor Mediums

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I spent time with friends on Friday eating the most delicious parmesan truffle fries, on Saturday I did a hot power yoga class & went grocery shopping, and today I spent some time taking pictures in the Tremont area of the Smokies.

Posting tonight because there is no guarantee I’ll remember to post this tomorrow before the 7am deadline.

Really I’ll be happy if I’ve managed to get out of bed and be moderately coherent at that point.

Anyway!  This is for PTI’s Make It Monday – Stamping with Watercolor Mediums.

IMG_7215

Should not have taken these at night, I am being punished because this watercolor panel is so pretty in real life.  I used one of the stamps from the Mini Blooms set, and inked in Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers, and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks.  I dabbed water in the centers and stamped at the bottom, second generation in the middle, and third generation at the top.  The whole panel was spritzed with Mint Ranger Perfect Pearls Mist, and sequins were added here and there.  I didn’t add a sentiment because sometimes you just need cards without one.

Moxie Fab Stencil Challenge

I have been happy with all my cards this week, but this one is almost literally the icing on the cake.  I really wanted to stretch my limit with this challenge from Moxie Fab World:

IMG_7063

To create this, I used a Heidi Swapp stencil, taped down.  I only did the top part at first because this is a large card, and even the 6x6 stencil did not cover the whole thing.  I mashed three Distress Inks – Worn Lipstick, Mustard Seed, and Salty Ocean – on my craft sheet, and mixed the molding paste one at a time, then applying the color, then mixing another one.  I recommend working fast because you don’t want your paste to dry on the stencil, and also because it will be harder to lift the stencil without ripping the paper.

I came back to do the lower part (which is more Salty Ocean + Dusty Concord), and the sentiment (which is a die cut colored in copics and a stamp).  Oh and add a crapload of sequins!

A close up because who doesn’t love happy rainbow colors!

IMG_7064

Thanks for visiting me, have a HAPPY Friday!!

ETA: As you can see my pal Tania commented that I should add this to some other stencil challenges, thank you for letting me know about them!  Virginia’s View (I forgot she started a blog just for the challenge which makes sense now as to why I didn’t see it) and Keep It Simple (never participated in this before, so yay)

Two Easter Cards and Two Happy Cards

Today’s post is just a couple cards that I made not this past weekend but the one prior, not for any challenges.  Just to have fun, and use up some paper scraps – what a nice feeling, isn’t it?  Enjoy!

Hello…

Participating in the latest CASE this Sketch..and for once I totally followed the rules and kept it CAS!!

IMG_7060

This card was really hard to photograph for some reason and I didn’t really have time to stage it, so I took a close up of the part that matters:

IMG_7061

Somehow this is the first time I’ve used my Gold StazOn, and WOW it is so pretty!!  The border/hello is a Zig pen, not the brush.

Thanks for coming to visit!

Nautical Thank You

I am a fan of all things nautical, so I hope the trend never goes away (well it doesn’t really matter because I will still be devoted to it).  Today’s card is inspired from Case Study #184.

I was inspired by the layout, sentiment, and vellum:

IMG_7059

I started by masking off the main section, then smaller sections to create stripes using Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress Inks.  The circles are vellum, as are the little anchors.  A random collection of buttons, enamel dots, and gem stars carry the eye from top to bottom.  THANK is MFE dies, coated in Goldenrod Stickles.  YOU is a SSS die, colored in copics.

Thank YOU for joining me today, best wishes for a happy April!

To Nights We’ll Never Remember…

Celebrating the last day of March with this little number:

IMG_7057

I love this duo of Paper Smooches dies with the sentiments from Avery Elle.  Drinks colored in Copics and coated with a healthy dose of Stickles.

Cheers (to April)!!

I <3 You More Than Coffee

I enjoy a good cup o’ joe as much as the next person, but there are some people in my life – yours too, I’m sure – that really know their stuff when it comes to the almighty bean.  One of my favorite sets by Papertrey features this cute little stack of cups and a variety of coffee-themed sentiments:

IMG_7035

Here’s the deets on the creation: I took three separate Hero Arts Shadow Inks (Soft Sand, Soft Brown, and Cup  O’ Joe – how fitting!) to create the ombre effect on PTI kraft cardstock.  I was going to be all anal about it, but the slight crookedness lends to a jittery look which imho is perfect!  I found this doily image on the back of some patterned paper I had, die cut a circle around it, and inked in Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain.  The cups are colored in Copics, and coated in a healthy dose of Glossy Accents (and also on top of the center hearts).

I think this could be a great card for either male or female recipient, something that can be very hard to do!

So what do you think, does this card set you ‘abuzz’?
