Papertrey Ink’s January Blog Hop

Thanks for joining me today for Papertrey Ink’s January Blog Hop!  I’ve got two cards to show you, inspired by:

Y’all may have noticed I am head over heels for watercolor.  I started out with a panel of watercolor paper, using a gradient of Picked Raspberry Distress Stain to create my ombre background.  I used two PTI sets for this card; Mini Blooms and Delighful Dahlia Additions (the sentiment).  3 shades of pink for the flowers – Picked Raspberry, Hero Arts Bubble Gum and Stampin Up’s Pink Pirouette.  Enamel dots, 2 shades of pink sequins, and a fine coat of shimmer mist make a beautiful glimmery finish.

This second card may be bending the rules.  I read it as ‘using pink with any neutral’ to complement, but it really needed the green.  I used washi tape to mask off about an inch off each side, then used Jet Black gouache to create the stripes.  Once that dried I used these lovely blooms from the Delightful Dahlias Additions set to create my focal point.  I was playing with several sentiments, but didn’t like any placement I came up with – and that is a-ok in my book.  A couple of gold sequins don’t hurt either!

Thanks for the visit, if it’s your first time here have a looky-loo around!

Moxie Fab World’s Star Challenge

Thank God this challenge gave me some time to create, so many of these weekly challenge I simply don’t have time for.  Or if I have the time the mojo won’t cooperate.  Or if I’ve managed to create the card and like it, I’ll have forgotten to take pics, or blog about it in a timely fashion (how many times have I snuck just before a deadline!?)

So YAY for longer challenge times!

This is Moxie Fab World’s Star Challenge:

More watercolor – YAY!  I mixed Jet Black gouache with Prussian Blue.  And what a blue it is!  Nice deep, rich starry sky.  Drool!  I let the watercolor do its thang, dripping and ombreing (is that a word?) in all its glory.  When I was satisfied with the layers I gold embossed the Lawn Fawn sentiment at the bottom, and grabbed some gold Ferro paste and mashed it on through a Heidi Swapp stencil.  For good measure I added some Gold Color Shine and some Studio Calico star wood veneers.

I think I could paint a hundred of these skies and never get bored.

Oh and I forgot to mention – it does not show up here (well maybe, try tilting your head at the screen, you might catch it) – the Studio Calico vellum with constellations on it, it’s the background behind the watercolor panel.  Can you see it?  In person it just pulls the whole card together.  So bummed it is hard for me to capture on camera.  If you guys have any ideas on how to help with this I am open to suggestions!

I thank my lucky stars for YOU!  Thanks for joining me today!!

Celebrate TODAY!

A new CASE this sketch:

Okay…let’s start with the obvious – not very CAS but gosh darn it I was having a great time and couldn’t stop!

I started with this washi tape (which is actually a 12x12 paper of tape that I got from my LSS, cool huh).  I die cute the white panel and ran it through a honeycomb embossing folder.  Haven’t used this stamp from the Friendship Jar PTI set and solicited opinion on sentiment from BFF – she choice birthday so that was the closest coordinating stamp – cute, no?  I love the embellies – wadded up navy twine, honeycomb wood veneer, and a couple of kelly green enamel dots.

Hope you like it, and here’s a piece of advice for you, my friends – celebrate TODAY!

Cupid’s Love

Haven’t done two challenges in one in awhile, but for me this just worked:

ColourQ #224 and Sketchbook Saturday #113, here’s my take:

So FUN!  I started scripting the background in three shades of Studio Calico Mister Huey’s mist, writing ‘Love’ lover and over until I filled it.  I cut out a frame in this lovely pool color and put some vellum to draw the eye inward and tone down the business behind our baby Cupid.  He’s inked in Hero Arts shadow ink in Charcoal – how solidly smooth it stamps!  I colored some Studio Calico wood veneer hearts and arrows and adhered them to the frame.  I decided to perform surgery on Cupid, cutting off the stamped wings and adding trimmed feathers.  He’s recuperating just fine and he’s now considering a tummy tuck.

Thanks for the visit!

Love – Watercolor Two Ways

Another Case Study today, having lots of fun with Donna Mikasa’s cards.

Here’s my take:

Watercolor panel, mix of of Winsor & Newton Mauve and Cadmium Red Pale Hue.  The “love” script is with a custom blend of Manila and Gold Studio Calico Mister Huey’s mist.  I wanted it to show better than the gold would have by itself, and I think it lends to a really nice bronzy sort of gold.  A couple Kelly Purkey sequins finish.

And because I was just so inspired, I made another card:

Same paint colors – waste not want not – and brushed the lines across the strip of watercolor paper.  I just layered different hued hearts until I liked the look, then added some Dear Lizzy pink glitter Thickers.

Thanks for joining me today!

Watercolor hello

Loving the inspo from Runway Challenge this week:

I have been so into watercoloring lately (you’ll probably see more on my Instagram at this point because they’re just doodles) but good golly tamale are they fun!

The umbrella inspired the wet loose look, and I am about to take a brush script class, so thought I’d custom mix some Studio Calico Mister Huey’s (Hot Diggity and Letter Jacket) to get this deep red orange color.  I used a bamboo brush, I’m working on getting comfortable but I am happy with how this turned out!

LOVE you

I guess it’s time for Valentine’s cardmaking to commence, I bring you CASE this sketch!

This is one of those cards where I knew pretty much where I was going with it from the get-go.  I spritzed with Heidi Swapp’s Color Shine in one of the newer colors – Blush, then used one of her stencils with some gold Ferro paste for the hearts (they are a bit lighter gold in person).  For the hearts I mashed some Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick, Victorian Velvet, Spun Sugar, and Picket Fence onto my craft sheet; then put the solid image Tim Holtz heart stamp in repeatedly til I got the look I was after.  Die cuts from MFT and SSS for the sentiments.

Thanks friends for popping in with me, tell me, how are you Valentine’s Day cards going – have you started?

Sequin Bonanza

A bout today with CASE Study’s latest!

Here’s my take:

A gift card holder sits in the center of alternating black and white frames, loaded to the gills with sequins!  And if you’re wondering why the black frames look splotchy it’s because they’ve been spritzed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Black Magic.  Delightful stuff on black!

I wanted to go big and bold, and at first shuddered at the thought of using so many sequins.  But then I thought – hello!  They’re about as inexpensive as papercrafting supplies come so use them before they’re out of style.  This pic shows how many layers of sequins are on top of each other, easily up to six or seven I’d imagine!

So if you’re hoarding your stash, I give you permission to free yourself and use what you’ve got! Winking smile

Thanks for joining me today!

Perky Coffee

Squeaking in before the deadline as always – here’s my take on CASology’s “Bubbly”

A great synonym for bubbly is perky, and what gives more perk than a hot cup o’ joe?

Thanks for joining me today!

Cold Noses & Warm Hearts

I cannot tell you how much fun I had with this CASE(E) this Sketch – simple but I LOVE it!!

You might want to grab some shades…

AHHH!!! Isn’t that so freakin CUTE!?  I got these little PTI stamps for Christmas, and even though it is a Christmas set, I see no reason why they can’t be used year round (this card is a thank you to my in-laws).  neon paper paired perfectly with Hero Arts Neon Inks – and the dogs themselves (the black part) is so solidly black thanks to Versafine Onyx Black – that stuff is amazing.

Here’s why this card makes me squee:

Now do the outlines look familiar?  Just look at that face!  This is Chase (the one in the green sweater, lol!)  Ella is the younger one (in the pink sweater) but I have to practice with a faster shutter speed to catch her in a non-blurry shot.  Jeff and I call them the Trotters.  Chase is my boy, my puppy, I just love him to pieces!!

Do you have any stamps you like to use to represent you pets?  Share a link to the set or your project!
